This guide explains how to connect your application to the VastVision platform. It covers how to read inventory data, print RFID tags and create assets from inside your application, and receive real-time updates when tagged items move.
Build an automation recipe that fires when a tagged item moves from an interior zone to an exit zone (or back). VastVision POSTs the asset, zones, location, and times to your server. See Webhooks.
Print & create assets (on demand)
From inside your application, send a list of items to one API call. VastVision creates the assets, encodes their EPCs, and prints the RFID labels on your Zebra printer. See Printing.
1. PRINT ZPL
Your application ─────────▶ VastVision platform ─────────▶ Zebra printer
(server-side API client) api.vastvision.io (prints label + encodes EPC)
(HTTPS webhook receiver) ◀── assets, zones, ◀───────── RFID readers
2. WEBHOOK print jobs, recipes TAG READS (detect tags moving between zones)
Your tenant. Every access token belongs to exactly one organization, and every request is automatically scoped to it. You never pass an organization ID to read or write data, and you cannot reach another tenant’s data.
Asset
A single physical inventory item carrying an RFID tag. Identified by its unique epc_hex (the EPC encoded on the tag).
Asset Classification
A product type or category (e.g. Polo Shirt › Small). Classifications form a tree via parent_id, an asset can carry several, and a classification may have a price.
Classification Grouping
A label that says what kind of attribute a classification is (e.g. size, color). Used for filtering and for label templates.
Location
A physical site (store, warehouse) belonging to your organization.
Zone
An area inside a location (e.g. Back Stock, Sales Floor, Exit). An asset’s current zone is tracked automatically by fixed RFID readers, handhelds, or GPS. Each zone is either an interior zone (inside your inventory area) or an exit zone (a door or dock).
Device / Reader
Fixed RFID reader hardware, identified by hardware_id. Its antenna ports map to zones.
Movement (change message)
A record that an asset was read in a new zone or position.
Automation Recipe
A rule you build in the VastVision web app: when an asset moves in a way you define (for example, from an interior zone to an exit zone), perform an action such as sending a webhook.
Printer
A Zebra RFID printer registered to a location. It prints the label and encodes the tag EPC in the same pass.
RFID Label Template
A ZPL label design with placeholders that are filled from asset data at print time.
Print Job
One print request covering one or more assets, with a status.
Stock Alert
A par-level rule: alert when the count of classification X (organization-wide, or in zone Y) drops below N.
Webhook
An HTTPS endpoint on your side that VastVision POSTs to when an automation recipe completes.
